Visit Lyon and do not miss anything

The Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière

Built between the years of 1872 and 1884 by Pierre Bossan, and popularly referred to by locals as the upturned elephant, it features an eclectic mix of architecture, fusing styles as different as Baroque, Oriental and Neo-Classical. It houses an observatory offering magnificent views of Lyon.

Lyon Cathedral

A magnificent Gothic structure, it was constructed between 1170 and 1180. It stands out, among other things, for its Roman style choir which dates back to the 12th and 15th centuries. Also deserving of admiration are its unique stained glass windows and the low relief of its façade. The Cathedral holds various concerts and performances throughout the year.

On your bike

If you fancy a visit to Lyon with a difference, the city has a public bike scheme called Vélo'v. Some 4,000 bicycles are spread between more than 350 stations. The first half hour is free, after that the next 30 minutes cost one euro increasing to 2 euros after the first hour. The best feature of this bike service is that they can be left at any station without any worries. Another option is to buy a short-duration ticket, valid from one day to a week according to the option chosen.
